Our Last Day in Hawaii...Making the Most of It!
Our last day in Hawaii...we stopped at a Quilt Passions in the King Kamehameha Mall. I discovered that the fabric is just as expensive as the food in Hawaii!!! We decided to just our around and see what we could see before we had to return the rental car. So...we found Kona Mountain Coffee and saw coffee being roasted, sampled some coffee, bought a coffee frappe...stopped at a cafe and had an excellent burger that had sauteed mushrooms, onions and cream cheese on it...Yummo!!!
This is the park we found after driving across bone jarring lava rock for 30 minutes. A nice surprise!
This is a lava tube. They are created when lava is flowing and a crust forms on the outside but the lava keeps flowing inside. This one was along the road and had been opened in the process of building the road. Some lava tubes are extensive and like complex caves inside. Some, like this one, fill themselves up again.
Another place along the old airport road...this place looked like only the locals knew about it and was a great beach. Too bad we didn't have just one more day! We learned so much in this three weeks about Hawaii; volcanoes, lava, royalty, food, customs, language, high prices....and more!
At the airport...I forgot to hula so here it is...the only time I'll probably ever hula!
We traveled from Kona to Honolulu, to L.A., to Minneapolis, to Madison. Of course I had to be the one checked at the airport. My hands were swiped, I was x-rayed arms in the air!, patted down, and my luggage was searched...all because of a bottle of water I forgot I had!
The last sunset in Hawaii with my honey. We had a wonderful vacation but there is still no place like home!
