The Alamo... The word alamo actually means "cottonwood" in Spanish and the Alamo was named after the regiment from Mexico that camped in the cottonwood trees. So much to see here and so much history! Originally a Spanish mission, the Alamo dates back to 1718. The familiar hump on the church facade was added around 1850 in celebration of 100 years of Texas Independence.
