Super cool tour...so much info...lots of walking!!! The Biosphere 2 was created in order to study ecosystem processes under controlled conditions. Biosphere 2 contains 5 biomes (or self sustaining communities of living organisms), rainforest, savanna, desert, ocean and marsh. Thesouth lung ensures that B2 will not implode or explode due to pressure forces. This lung allows air to be displaced to and from B2 when temperature changes from night to day (during the day air expands because of heat and needs to go somewhere). This "lung" is actually rubber and expands and contracts so the sealed building doesn't explode. Water, air, soil, sun, and life all interact. Better understanding of these interactions along with other experiments will improve the quality of life for all inhabitants of Earth's original biosphere. B2science.org
