Saguaro Visitor Center

A quilt made of the multi colored ribs of the saguaro...a display showing a miniature hasienda...a model saguaro showing cross sections and inner construction...Al is holding a "boot" created by a wood pecker. The bird pecks a hole and leaves for several days.  In the mean time the Cactus wound forms a "scab" and when the bird returns, it finds a smooth nest to lay is eggs. When the bird is done with the nest,  it moves on and another animal or bird takes over the "boot." I've included a chart showing the growth of a saguaro...it takes many years to grow a large one!
