So much to see! A large museum of Native American artifacts. The artists studio, Ranger talks, hand made crafts made by Native Americans...We took a bus tour to the base of the monument with a guide who rid us the entire story of how it came to be, about the artist and his life and family. His family still runs the project today from blasting to the gift store. The first machine was his very first and they told the story of how he would climb up over 70 stairs, barely get started working and putt, putt, sputter, it would quit...So down the stairs he would go to start it again, one day he did this nine times! The bulldozer was operated by his son. One day he went over the mountain in that dizer while working on the monument. He jumped out as it went over and as soon add his dad saw he was ok, he said, "you put the thing down there, you figure out how to get it out of there." And he did. Take a look at the close up picture of Crazy Horses face...doesn't it look like someone is curling his lashes? ;)
