January 26th through January 31st Hikes

January 26th through January 31st Hikes

Tortilla Ranch

Levee Trail

Moonlight Hike

Meridian Trailhead

I've managed to get behind on posts of my hikes but it's a rainy day so here goes...

(I decided to post the first 3 February hikes on a separate post to keep the file sizes manageable.)

Friday January 26th Tortilla Ranch

Tortilla Trailhead 213 north of Tortilla Flat and Canyon Lake, 6-1/2 mile hike.

It was pretty windy and chilly this morning but it warmed up quickly!

The geology in this area is different than in the Superstition Wilderness.

We hiked over the lava flows for the trail at the start.

We arrived at the Tortilla Ranch site!

This was a good picture of Walter and his wife Elaine.  I don't know how old these two are for sure but I do know they're close to 80, they're an inspiration to me!

Left to right, Jeanne, Elaine, Walter, Jo and me.

This made me think of old western movies, very cool formations.

January 26th Levee Trail Moonlight Hike

We did our first moonlight hike ever on the January full moon.  Very beautiful in the moonlit desert, there were about 40 people on this hike!

I'm still figuring out the settings on the phone camera for nighttime photos but you can get the gist of the size of the hiking group.

Wednesday January 31st Meridian Trailhead

Today was a short 3-1/2 mile easy to moderate hike with about 20 people.

Lunch spot!

Taking pictures at night with just the full moon is very hard. You'd have to have a tripod which doesn't make sense on a hike. πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ“Έ They turned out pretty good!
