3.1.24 Wind Cave & Cat's Peak Trail - Usery Mountain State Park

 Wind Cave on Usery Mountain

Another beautiful day for a hike! This was my first hike as the leader of the group, luckily I didn't get off trail anywhere!  This was a 3 mile round trip hike to the cave and back.

Sometimes you would think this couldn't possibly be the trail but we're getting used to scrambling over and around stuff as part of the hike!

You can see these light colored bluffs all the way from Phoenix!

Almost there!

Gorgeous views from up here!

7 of us hiked to Wind Cave. Left to right Denise & Lisa (Colorado Springs), Jo (Kansas City, MO), Linda Braun (Breckenridge, MN) Rose McLeod (BC Canada), me & Lori (Des Moines, Iowa).

Flowers are starting to bloom.

Making the trek back down.

5 of us stayed for a 4 mile hike on Cat's Peak Trail

You can see the mountain lion den up on the side of the mountain here so we decided to go up there to see how deep the cave is.

We were almost to the lion's den when we came across this guy rattling at us and he convinced us that was a bad idea, retreat!

It's hard to imagine that not too much earlier we were way up there on top of that mountain!

We were almost back to the parking area and we came across another rattlesnake!  We're going to have to be very cautious for the rest of the hiking season here.
