12.14.23 Coon Bluff Recreational Site and Four Peaks- Tonto National Forest

Coon Bluff Trail runs along the Lower Salt River and has many mesquite trees for shade. It was a great easy hike. We ate a picnic lunch here.

Sometimes there are wild horses that wander around here and they eat the green vegetation off the bottom of the shallow parts of the river. There were piles of "evidence" on the trail to avoid! They have volunteers that go along the trial and rake the waste to the side.

We met a woman from Russia who was in the mood to chat! She married and moved here several years ago and shared her story with us right here by this funky tree.

We found another short trail that dead ended but it ran long the steep bluff and was nicely shaded.

This is the Four Peaks Mountain. I can't figure out why it’s called four peaks because there are five. It is part of the Mazatzal Mountains, it is located in the Four Peaks Wilderness in the Tonto National Forest. The name Four Peaks refers to the four peaks of a north–south ridge.

Four Peaks

Browns Peak      7,657 Feet

"Brother Peak"  7,642 Feet

"Sister Peak"      7,572 Feet

"Amethyst Peak" 7,524 Feet

I accidentally took this photo as we were driving and didn't realize what the sign said until we got back! LOL I thought it was funny. We were on a very steep road.

This was the very steep road. Hard to tell that in the photo.

We saw this and instantly thought of Jake (Vicki and Scott's son). We had to stop and take a photo for him. He said, "How'd you find my side business?" 😁😉

The cool bridge on Lake Roosevelt from the other side.

The sun is going down...time to head back to Mona!
