Treasure Loop 12.13.23 and Deer Tanks 12.15.23 Trails

Treasure Loop Trail 12.13.23

It was a bit chilly this morning but we had a hardy group hiking the Treasure Loop Trail at the Superstition Mountains.  This was a different section of the trail that Colleen and I had hiked several weeks ago.

I thought this was a cool photo of our trail guide, Tom Wilkinson.  Tom volunteered to create and guide for the hiking club and we are thankful for that, some of the trails in the desert are hard to follow!

A perfect spot for a lunch break, it was warming up nicely!

In the foreground of this photo you can see a depression that is an abandoned mine, we see evidence of old mines all over in this area.

I thought Cashton would like this photo, even the Saguaro Cactus do love bubbles!

Native American tribes believed the crow to be sacred and believed to be a symbol of the highest form of wisdom.  Some even believed the crow could communicate with humans.  I think this one was telling us to appreciate and enjoy the beauty of this land!

Trail 303 near the Deer Tanks Trail 12.15.23

Trail 303 is on the lower left portion of the map, some of the trail we were on isn't even shown on this map and we hiked about 6 miles today.  Tom Wilkinson is good at finding trails with less hikers and horseback riders!

Someone was creative making a natural stone bench to sit on and enjoy the views on the way up to the peak of the trail.

The formation in the saddle of these two peaks is called "praying hands".  It's a good reminder to praise God for our blessings!

Some of the peaks in the background are over 50 miles away!

It was pretty windy on this Friday hike but Tom found us a wind break for lunch!

There was a peak that was higher than the saddle where we sat for lunch so I hiked up there to get some photos.  The wind was so strong up there that I had to hang on so I didn't get blown off the cliff I was on!

Pretty awesome views from up on the peak!

Looking out over the valley the City's all seemingly are one.  You could see all the way from Glen Canyon to Glendale on the other side of Phoenix, that's about 50 miles in both directions!

The trail got a little hairy coming down, I can't believe people ride horses through here!

This is Walter, he's a fellow hiker from Saskatchewan.  Tom, Walter and I were the only 3 in the club that went on this windy trek!
