Al's Hiking 12.08.23 Butcher Jones Trail

December 8, 2023
Butcher Jones Trail #463

This Wednesday hike was a 5.5 mile round trip in and back on the same trail.  The trailhead starts at the beach on Saguaro Lake.  Saguaro Lake is the last of the 4 lake chain on the Salt River.

It was chilly this morning when we started our hike and we were glad we had our jackets to start out!

You can see the 4 Peaks mountain range in the background.

The water was like glass this morning and there were several fishing boats out on the lake.  You can see the beach in the background where the trailhead started.

This is the canyon that the Salt River flows through at the upstream end of Saguaro Lake.

This is some of the hiking group.  Tom is the trail guide for our group and does an excellent job of explaining details of the different trails we go on.  He also does a pretty good job of making sure the same number of people come back that he left with! lol

This is a good photo of the Salt River with the 4 Peaks in the background again.  This area also has ATV/UTV trails that start along the entrance to the lake and you can ride all the way to the 4 Peaks.

Some of the trails reminded me of the goat trails we went on when we were elk hunting in Colorado.

Lunch time!
