24.04.21 Cactus Hunting

Hello! It's Sunday! It's pretty warm today...96 degrees. Al and I went for a bike ride (early before it go so hot) though the park to see if we could find some cactus blooms. Here are a few that we found...

Prickly Pear

Ocotillo

Little John Bottle Brush

Red Yucca, closely related to agaves and native to the Chihuahuan Desert, it is one of the go-to plants for desert home landscapes and is common in highway medians because of its extreme drought and cold tolerance. Red flower stalks feature branches of salmon pink flowers attractive to hummingbirds.

Lantana- can tolerate the infertile, alkaline soils of the desert southwest.

Finally got a few photos! This week we still plan to do another boat cruise on Canyon Lake and Al will play pickle ball (too hot for me!). Then we are packing up to leave this resort on the 30th. We'll keep you posted as the adventure continues! Have a great week!
